A temporary fence has sprung up around the entrance to our Early Years Center (Zhaolin Plaza Building B – south side), which also marks out the area for our outdoor play area. The outdoor learning area features, fixed playground pieces together with an area for children to build their own playground features using large construction blocks and balance beams. This will ‘empower’ their imagination as makers and keep the outdoor play environment ever dynamic and challenging.
Another feature of our outdoor learning space is our environmental area which includes an area for sand and water play and will provide experiences with lots of natural materials and an area to observe plants and nature.
A vegetable garden will provide a chance for children see understand the cycle of food production and the seasons and provoke ideas for using ‘our crops’ in our learning kitchen.
Our library on the Floor 1 of the Early Years Center is set to be a very special space and teachers are busy cataloguing hundreds of books in English and Chinese ready to line its shelves. Books will feature throughout the Center, but the library will be a very special place for children to visit and browse through for a quite read or choose books to take home. It will also be a very special space for regular story telling sessions by teachers and our ‘guest story tellers’.
Parents will also be welcome to enjoy the space and read with their children and borrow books.
Our parent Guest Speaker and Workshop series launches on Thursday 11 September with a presentation focusing on ‘How young children learn’.
